 Bill "Bird" Oestreich
An active instructor since 1987, Bill "Bird" Oestreich
became a part of the cave diving community after moving to Florida
in 1988. As the owner of
Bird’s Underwater, his full
time occupation is guiding dive tours and teaching all of our
technical diving classes. He volunteers as a guide to certain
restricted sites and keeps wet and well read, knowing that all
learning is an ongoing process. His governing agencies are the
NSS/CDS, NACD, IANTD and the TDI. Bill served on the training
committee for the NSS/CDS and has retained active status with PADI
and NAUI. His main instructional goals are safety and
conservation. He believes that the cave is the best teacher,
and that learning takes place most efficiently in a slow gradual
progression. He stresses that his students know their limits
and stay within them, and that they not lose sight of why they dive in the
first place,
which is to have fun!
